Trash INSIDE Doughnuts from JCo, Baguio
[Note: The incident detailed in this review was initially reported as a complaint through JCo's website on 1 April 2024, then again on 8 April by email to JCo's head office in Singapore. To date, they have made no response – hence this review.]
On 1 April 2024, we bought four doughnuts from JCo in SM Baguio, Philippines. While eating one of these doughnuts, I nearly choked on a long piece of dirty string that had been carelessly left inside the doughnut during its preparation. The photo shows this piece of string that was found inside the doughnut.
Of course, this was an upsetting experience. Obviously, safety and hygiene during food preparation should be JCo's paramount concerns. Sadly, JCo's quality control standards have clearly lapsed, at least in Baguio. JCo failed to protect their customers from the risk of choking and infection due to trash carelessly mixed into their products.
Since submitting the details of this incident to JCo through their website on 1 April, and again by email to JCo's head office in Singapore on 8 April, the company has not even bothered to reply – so it seems that in addition to very poor food preparation standards, JCo really does not care at all about their customers' safety and welfare. Of course, doughnuts are never exactly the healthiest food option – but if bought from JCo, they can be positively dangerous!

So many choices of donuts to choose from! I ordered 2: Tiramisu, and I can't remember what the other one was.

I have visited dozens of J.Co locations in Malaysia and Indonesia and have never been disappointed. This is the first time I've been to a J.Co in Singapore, and I won't be going back. I am a fan of the espresso mocha frappe, and its taste is usually consistent. But not here. First of all, it wasn't a frappe at all, but a half-liquid, half-foamy drink. I questioned if it was the correct drink, given its liquid consistency, and they insisted it was normal, which was clearly not true. Next, there was no whipped cream. I had to ask for it, and they added it. Finally, I asked for the large version, but received a cup filled only to three-quarters. And to top it off, there was no trace of "mocha" flavor. Terrible disappointment!

Their doughnuts are freshly baked and super delicious. However, we ordered hot coffees but they served them cold.

Doughnuts here are always delicious. I've always had them to go, so I don't know how the atmosphere or coffee is here. I really like the choices.

The coffee and atmosphere were alright, but the workers were really rude. They rushed us to order even though we hadn't decided what to get, despite there being no one else in line. You can only stay for one hour, so it's not good if you want to study or sit for longer periods.

Here's the edited review:
Great, friendly service – they attended to us immediately, and the coffee was surprisingly good. There was a promotion for 2 donuts + 2 drinks for $12, which seemed very worth it! There weren't many seats available, so we sat at the bar.
We got the items à la carte and really enjoyed the Pour Over. The donut filling could have been a little more, but every flavor looked tempting. We could also get 2 donuts for $2.40 with any beverage purchase.
I ordered a Choco Mint (less sweet); however, it's a premix. The only male staff member helped by adding a little more milk to reduce the sweetness. 👍 I hope JCO can introduce something savory like truffle fries, as all the sweetness can become 'jelak'.

When it comes to comforting donuts, I somehow prefer J.CO. When I come to the Bugis area, this will normally be my place of refuge to have a quick bite of their delicious donuts and enjoy a decent fruity long black while checking out some emails.

The pistachio one tasted weird.
